Freedom Sunday- May 19th
Q: What are missions?
A: As Jesus was about to leave the earth He left these marching orders to his disciples. And they still are the marching orders we should follow. Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” We are to represent Jesus to the world beginning in our own back yard and stretching throughout the world. At ICC we recognize and support a variety of missionaries and mission’s groups. In addition teams go out regularly from ICC to participate in various short-term missions projects. Missionaries seeking support should make a formal request to ICC.It is our custom to primarily support missionaries who are serving under a known mission’s board; have a strong accountability team and are in line with the doctrine and practices of ICC.
Q: Why is it important and what does the Bible say about missions?
A: Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
1 Chronicles 16:23-24 Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
Psalm 96:3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Matthew 28: 18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Luke 24:46,47 He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
